Motherboards Categories

“Motherboard” is the term used to describe the main printed circuit board in PCs, laptops and other computer systems. While the term motherboard is the most commonly used title, others include mainboard, system board and logic board. The function of the motherboard is to hold components such as the CPU, processor and memory, all of which are crucial to the successful operation of the system. The mother aspect of the board refers to the connectors that allow additional components to attach to it. These additional components often include audio and graphics cards, as well as storage drives and cards to provide additional connectivity slots.

A wide range of motherboards are available on the market, from entry-level boards for general daily tasks to high-performance boards, such as those from Intel, designed for gamers, overclockers and designers.

If you're a serious PC builder you'll probably know exactly what motherboard you need but if you're not, you need to make sure your Motherboard socket is compatible with your Processor/CPU.
